Today was a big day, like a really big day, a life changing type of day.
Today a sweet little guy, Brendyn was adopted and Molly officially became his forever mom. Their story is a bit of a miracle. He told me one time, ‘Molly has been praying for me for eleven years, but I am only eight.’ Haha. Good point, right!? He understands now and this realization itself only adds to the magnitude of how big of a deal it is that these two officially became the Taylors on February 5, 2021.
When Molly and I first spoke in May of 2020 I wasn’t sure that we would be able to meet her adoption goal. She had a rough start, her goal was to adopt and it didn’t necessary line up with another agency’s goals, and yet another agency lost all her paperwork. When she reached me she was frustrated, sad and feeling defeated. Although, it was not my focus I could hear it in her voice and felt it, she wanted to be a mom and she wanted to become a mom through adoption. I could not say no, instead I said let’s do this and see what happens. We were at the tail end of certification when I received a call about a 7 year old boy needing a concurrent home. He had some struggles and various diagnosis. It would be a hard journey.
Brendyn was placed with Molly on July 8, 2020 and turned 8 just a few short weeks later. I was amazed at the connection Molly and Brendyn immediately had. She became his biggest adovocate in no time and brought a new meaning to the term momma bear. This child changed before my very eyes and for the last 7 months I have witnessed incredible growth. The connection and love Brendyn and Molly have is undeniable. Molly was meant to be his mom and Brendyn her son.
I am thankful and blessed that Molly landed with Kin Connect and even more thankful that Brendyn landed with Molly.
I have had many adoptions throughout my career in child welfare, but this one hits different. This one is my first adoption under Kin Connect and I have been there for every single up and down and I would not change a thing. I stepped outside of the initial scope of my agency and because I did Molly and Brendyn are forever a family.
Healing and growth through relationship is what it is all about. I will hold this day in my heart forever. ~Rebekah
This was a virtual adoption. I am thankful to have been able to attend in person and capture the excitement and pure joy as the Judge declared the adoption to be official. 🙂 Brendyn Wayne Taylor 2.5.2021
So awesome, congratulations. If only there were many families out there to even adopt just one kiddo like this little guy we would have less kids waiting for their forever family. I love the expression on his face.
